Core story for Pneuhage.
The story buried under 75 years of customer proximity.
How Pneuhage discovered the core experience of their brand.
For 75 years, the brand of Pneuhage, one of Germany's leading tyre and automotive service providers, developed through direct customer interaction: in consultations, sales, workshops, at locations, and in long-standing relationships. The company grew successfully, marked by strong sales proximity, personal service, and traditional communication of offerings.
However, with that growth came increasing demands on the brand. What worked well in direct customer contact now needed to provide guidance not only for customers but also for employees, sub-brands, and the entire group. Individual measures were no longer sufficient. Pneuhage needed a shared narrative core — and sought this together with wob.
„If a brand wants to grow, attract employees, and unify different parts of the business under a single roof, mere communication of offerings is no longer sufficient. A shared core is essential — and that’s what we discovered together with wob."
Christian Burkhard, Head of Marketing, Pneuhage Management GmbH & Co. KG
Much communication. Much substance. No common core.
Pneuhage had no shortage of material: sales documents, magazines, interviews, videos, trade fair appearances, customer testimonials, internal content. Everywhere there was substance — and real people were palpable, sharing in their own words what defines Pneuhage.
What was missing, however, was the common thread. A core story that not only sounds appealing but also makes an existing experience visible. A narrative that explains why people trust Pneuhage — and why that trust can continue to provide guidance in the future.
Our goal, therefore, was not to formulate a new claim, but to uncover the Experience Kernel: the point where corporate identity, genuine customer experience, and communicative potential intersect.
Not inventing. Finding.
In the B2B sector, communication often marks the beginning of a long relationship. What a brand promises must later be experienced in consultation, service, collaboration, and everyday interactions. Otherwise, it remains mere advertising — or worse, just a claim.
For this reason, the process didn’t start with a catchy headline but with careful observation. wob analysed existing communications, customer testimonials, internal content, competitive dynamics, and the core essence of Pneuhage — centred around a key question: What experience is consistently described, even if it isn’t explicitly named?
It became clear that the eventual story was not a free creative exercise, but rather derived from the brand’s core — rooted in reliability, performance, and above all, the friendly, human nature of Pneuhage.
From this analysis emerged a spectrum of possible narratives. Each direction was strategically, linguistically, and visually explored. AI was also employed as a sparring partner to swiftly identify where an idea resonated, where it became too narrow, and where it remained interchangeable.
No one mentioned family. yet everyone described one.
The surprising revelation was that the word which ultimately became the core of the story was never actually mentioned. No one referred to "family" — neither internally nor externally.
For a major B2B tyre dealer, one might expect terms like performance, service, mobility, or network. Yet, between the lines, a different pattern emerged: customers, employees, and partners consistently described Pneuhage as approachable, honest, reliable, flexible — and simultaneously as a strong support system.
Thus, the most compelling narrative did not lie in performance arguments, but rather in the quality of relationships.
Providing space. Offering support.
The true essence is not "family" as a cliché. Instead, it lies in the sweet spot between freedom and connection.
Many customers in such markets face a dilemma: large networks offer security, standards, and availability — but often with standard solutions. Smaller providers are flexible, personal, and approachable — yet frequently lack the same capacity, availability, or support.
Pneuhage merges both: the freedom of honest advice and tailored solutions — coupled with the strength of a network that provides security when it matters most.
From this balance emerged the core story: Welcome to the Family.
"Welcome" is more than just a greeting; it is a promise of acceptance — as a customer, employee, partner, or new member of the group. Those who come to Pneuhage receive not only performance but also connection: to people, values, experience, and a network that offers support.
A core for brand, culture, and growth.
A powerful core story does not only resonate externally; it must also be recognised internally — especially in a well-established company like Pneuhage.
Welcome to the Family unites customer proximity, sales, culture, employees, locations, sub-brands, and growth. The story articulates something that has long been lived and transforms 75 years of customer connection into guidance for what lies ahead.
What the case demonstrates.
B2B storytelling doesn’t start with the loudest message, but with the truth within the company.
Often, the strongest brand core is already present — just not articulated. At Pneuhage, it was buried under 75 years of customer proximity. wob helped to uncover, distil, and make this experience visible.
